My Approach

Cognitive Behavior Therapy

This form of psychotherapy focuses on changing our thoughts and perceptions to modify our behaviors. In my office this may involve talk therapy and education to make changes in areas of difficulty in a client’s life.

Active Therapy

Our sessions may involve role playing, participative education, and maybe even going out into the community to try out some strategies. I will model the behavior and support the youth as they grow and learn these skills until they can confidently use them on their own.

Video Intervention Therapy

This evidence-based strategy helps us look at relationships and social interactions. We may record an encounter with the youth and reflect upon it together or watch videos from movies or television to dissect the interactions we see there and what can be learned from them.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness is a useful tool to manage anxiety, anger and stress. Taking a moment to center yourself and be present in the moment is powerful in facing these challenges. We can address self-regulation, calm an anxious mind, or provide a way to think more clearly and effectively.
